Stamped Concrete versus Graniflex – Concrete Swimming Pool Deck – Dublin, Ohio

Spring is around the corner and it will be here before you know it. This is the year you decided to make your backyard look stellar to impress family and friends for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. As you look in your backyard, you notice your swimming pool’s concrete pool deck – it is littered with dirt, leaves, cracks, jagged concrete. The most common decorative choice would be Stamped Concrete, which looks great, feels great, and will definitely upgrade the value and aesthetics of your backyard. However, here at Premier, we offer other decorative concrete solutions that will stretch the value of a dollar.

Stamped Concrete versus Graniflex

I write this blog to point out the advantages/disadvantages of having stamped concrete versus our graniflex coating. The decorative concrete industry is primarily known off of three types of designs: Stamped Concrete, Concrete Staining, and Epoxy Flooring. As for this blog, we are focusing on stamped concrete for your residential/municipal swimming pool’s concrete deck. Not many people are aware of other options available on the market, especially in the Central Ohio region. Ultimately, the design of your concrete pool deck is up to you, but before you start calling stamped contractors we want you to check out some of the decorative concrete designs we offer!

If you are in the market for a decorative, low maintenance coating we recommend our concrete coating of Graniflex. Graniflex’s rubber membrane technology penetrates concrete pores up to a half inch – this allows the coating become waterproof and NOT let air or water pass. Due to this technology, we can apply a polyaspartic sealer that will last for 8-10+ years. Polyaspartic sealers are a top shelf clear coating typically used for high vehicle traffic able to sustain ware and tear. Traditionally, outdoor coatings require an acrylic, breathable (allowing moisture to pass through) sealer. Any other sealer could possibly pop off due to escaping moisture – however as I previously stated, Graniflex’s rubber membrane does not let moisture pass, allowing for a longer lasting top coat sealer.

Faded Stamped Concrete

To protect stamped concrete must apply a topical acrylic sealer that deteriorates from UV rays over time and must be maintained every 2 – 3 years. If stamped concrete is not maintained, then it’s color will fade and the concrete is subject to deterioration from traffic, freeze-thaw cycle from water, and other ware and tear. However, if maintained properly, stamped concrete can last for years and years.

Decorative Options? What looks best?

Ultimately, the way you want to design your swimming pool’s concrete deck is up to you. Either option will definitely upgrade the value and aesthetics of your backyard.

Stamped concrete comes in a wide variety of stamps: cobblestone, brick, slate, concrete pool decks tile, and much more. Additionally, contractors have various color pigments they can apply to make the concrete pop. All shades of gray, brown, and orange will help match any backyard landscape. Typically, stamped contractors will only apply one color over the entire concrete surface. If you are looking for concrete overlay w/staining, that is a different decorative coating that involves a different process.

A Graniflex coating offers a variety of decorative flake blend options. We have professionally collected a variety of flake blends that will compliment your landscape appropriately. Perhaps you like a blend, but would like to add a single color or make a color more prominent – yes we can do that. Or, you want to completely make your own custom blend – yes you can do that as we have over 100 individual colors to choose from. Lastly, if you want us to make a tile pattern, border, or a cool flowing design – we can do that too!
