Pole Barn Concrete Floor – Powell, Ohio

I wanted to post about a pole barn concrete floor – Powell, Ohio that we had the opportunity of coating in March. This client uses the pole barn for hay, tractor storage, and a various other equipment to keep it out of the elements. Additionally, they rent the space out to clients that need a large area for a get together, such as graduation parties, receptions, etc. With that said, they were looking for a coating that was easy to maintain and would also protect their concrete floor.

We proposed a coating that would do just that – our grind & seal coating option provided this client with an affordable flooring solution.

How we accomplish this look is pretty straightforward:

  1. First, we must diamond grind the concrete to prepare the floor for installation of the polyurethane coating.
  2. After grinding is complete, we installed our coating of polyurethane across the floor. This is an industrial-grade coating that promotes scratch resistance, concrete durability, and chemical resistant.

An easy way to maintain this coating is by simply using soap and water.

For this particular coating, diamond grinding the surface not only prepares the concrete floor for our polyurethane, but also provides a

decorative look. Diamond grinding removes the top of the concrete, also known as “cream”, to expose small aggregate embedded in the

concrete. We call the showing of small aggregates a “salt & pepper” look as typically you will see small black and white specks. Click on the picture to the right to enlarge.

The cost of a grind & seal coating is typically between $2.00 – $3.50 a sq ft depending on the size of the job. We do not repair any cracks, fill in any joints, or repair any problem areas. Typical time to complete this coating option is approximately 2 – 3 days.
